Training with ISNHCP Certified Instructor, Paige Wilfert

Step 2/3 - Cadaver Trim & Sequencing Clinic
Following the successful completion of Step 1, you will advance to one of the Step 2/3 clinics. This clinic runs for 7 days. You will be taught tool and equipment management, effective and humane horse handling and communication skills, and optimal body positioning by sequencing. You will also be given hands-on experience measuring and trim mechanics using cadaver hooves.

Requirements: You are required to complete ISNHCP Step 1. You must bring all the required tools and equipment listed here. I have the authority to refuse anyone who arrives at the clinic unprepared. I am happy to answer any questions concerning this topic. I have some books and tools available for purchase. If there is something you need, please contact me for current in stock items. When purchasing tools, you may have them sent directly to my address for your clinic, but you are responsible for getting them home after the end of the clinic.

Location & Itinerary: We will start each day at 9:00am at my farm in Trevor, WI. We will be sequencing in the morning until lunchtime. We will break for lunch and carry on with cadaver trimming in the afternoon and end our day around 5:00pm. Students will have Wednesday off during the clinic, giving an opportunity to take a physical and mental break.

Cost: $1,600 early bird pricing if paid by specified date, $1,850 if paid after that date. Payment secures your spot in the clinic. Minimum of 2 students per clinic. 5 days of instruction.

Step 3 - Private Sequencing Training
Sequencing is an extremely important foundation of your training. It includes efficient tool and equipment management during trimming; effective and humane horse handling and communication skills; and optimal body positioning of the horse, trimmer and (if participating) handler. Sequencing, in other words, includes those strategically important things that we do that are supportive of the trimmer’s efforts to trim the horse. I am offering this clinic separate from my combined Step 2/3 Clinic if additional days are needed by any student. This clinic is a prerequisite to advancing to Step 4.

Requirements: All students are required to complete ISNHCP Step 1 and 2/3. Students must bring all the required tools and equipment. I have the authority to refuse any student who will not take their training seriously and arrives at the clinic unprepared. I am happy to answer any questions concerning this topic. I have some books and tools available for purchase, please contact me for current in stock items. When purchasing tools, you may have them sent directly to my address for your clinic, but students are responsible for getting them home after the end of the clinic.

Cost: $250 per day.

Step 4 - Live Horse Trim Clinic
This is a one-on-one training session with your clinician. The purpose of this clinic is twofold: 1) to provide you with sufficient experience and confidence that you can begin practicing on your own or friends' horses, and 2) to prepare you for your Step 5 Field Mentorships.

Requirements: All students are required to complete previous ISNHCP Steps 1 and 2/3. Students must bring all the required tools and equipment. I have the authority to refuse any student who will not take their training seriously and arrive at the clinic unprepared. I am happy to answer any questions concerning this topic.

Cost: $500 per day.

Step 5 - Field Mentorships
Following successful completion of the Step 4 Live Horse Trim Clinic, and approval by the ISNHCP of the Step 4 Video Evaluation, students will move forward to the Step 5 Field Mentorship phase of their training program. Field Instructors will take you into the field to trim on client, or in some cases their own horses. All students must initially complete at least (a minimum) 10 field mentorships (10 days of training on live horses) with at least three different AANHCP Certified NHC Field Instructors, and no more than four mentorships with one Field Instructor. Step 5 is an extremely important phase of your training as it exposes you to real life situations -- dealing with scheduling, clients, and horses you know nothing about. Step 5 encompasses all that you've learned to date and is the final preparation before you take the field alone as an ISNHCP student practitioner.

Requirements: All students are required to complete previous ISNHCP Steps 1, 2/3 and 4. Students must bring all the required tools and equipment. I have the authority to refuse any student who will not take their training seriously and arrive at the clinic unprepared. I am happy to answer any questions concerning this topic.

Cost: $200 per day.

Travel Info

Airports: General Mitchell International Airport (Milwaukee) - approx. 40 min drive to my location & O'Hare International Airport (Chicago) - approx. 50 min drive on the toll road to my location. I recommend flying into Milwaukee as it is the closest and easiest to travel to, Chicago is a much busier airport. Sometimes your flight will be cheaper if flying into Chicago, if you don't mind the large city!

Lodging: There are a few hotels in the area, I recommend ones near I-94 and Hwy 50 in Kenosha. I do also have a guest bedroom available to students in the program visiting me for training, please contact me for details and availability.
